A few thoughts on theArsenal 5-2 Tottenham league match. Deja Vu!!!

November 18, 2012

Arsenal against Spurs!!!  Derby day… I was not a happy bunny that a bad neck and bad back meant I was on the injury list and could not attend the match.

Instead I laid on my bed immobile watching it on Sky TV, with laptop and iPad on hand. Alan Smith and Jamie Redknapp were on hand to help take me through the game with the usual doom and gloom and any praise given was through seriously gritted teeth.

Arsene meets TH14

I was pretty confident of a win and had the feeling the boys would not leave one of their own behind, they were going to win for that bloke that could not attend. My pain was going to be washed away in the North London Derby. Twenty-three goals in the last four premiership matches between Arsenal and Spurs at the Emirates I was in no doubt the score was not going to be 0-0.

After all the lead up injury news whose in – whose out, the Arsenal team was : Szczesny; Sagna, Mertesacker, Vermaelen, Koscielny; Arteta, Wilshere; Walcott, Cazorla, Podolski; Giroud Subs: Mannone, Jenkinson, Santos, Coquelin, Ramsey, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Arshavin Referee: Howard Webb.

Webb gets the game under way. Spurs playing in a black and grey kit. Maybe they are fed up surrendering in white?

“We’re by far the greatest team the word has ever seen”

The Emirates was in good voice. Boos rang out for Adebarndoor on his first touch. Both teams were taking a good look at each other and nothing much was happening.

“Stand up if you hate Tottenham… Stand up if you hate Tottenham”

Adebarndoor!!! Spurs free kick. Bale’s took it and Giroud cleared straight to Twentystone whose shot went through to Gallas who scored but was offside. Something for Arsenal to think about early on. Sadly Arsenal don’t think. Vertonghen played a through ball,  the BFG is nowhere and Defoe having pulled away controls the ball hits it across Szczesny with his right foot into the far corner. Szczesny saves but only into the path of Adepaymore who happily put Spuds 0-1 up.

Plenty of time to come back and for Spurs to throw the game away. Close again as Defoe-Bale plays in Lennon (who has this strange posture where his arse sticks out a lot) he controlled and hit it low past Szczesny and also past the far post, that was very nearly 0-2. Spurs were making all the running. Still how many times over the last 10 years had we seen this.

Great turn from Wilshere, found Theo in space with a great ball, only Theo’s cross could find Giroud. I felt this move sparked Arsenal.

Adebayor!!! Cazorla- Sagna crossed and Vertonghen cleared long only for the BFG to head down to Cazorla and as the little Spaniard went for the ball, Adepisspoor went for the kung-fu approach and took Cazorla out with an awful challenge. The crowd were on their feet in a nano-second screaming for punishment. Wilshere was not happy, arms out – turned round straight into a gorilla that had invaded the pitch and started to push Jack shouting hoo hoo hoo hoo hoo hoo raarrrr… Webb took his time to think about the situation then finally went into his back pocket produced a red card and Adenomore was off!!!

Hero to Zero.. The team that keeps on giving…

Arsenal corner was headed away by Tom Twentystone for an Arsenal throw-in. Wilshere crossed to the far post, and TV5/BFG combined for TV5 to shoot which was blocked.

The BFG!!! Wilshere sprayed the ball out to Theo who went past Naughton, floated a superb cross into the box and there was the BFG to superbly head past Lloris into the net for 1-1. Plenty of neck power from the big f**cking German and his first goal for the club.

BFG 1-1

Ooooooooo !!!! Sagna-Theo-Cazorla-Sagna who crossed to Giroud who in turn headed straight at Lloris who made a save for the camera’s but Giroud should have scored.

Ooooooooo!!!! Cazorla hit a superb shot that swerved and dipped and went just over the bar. Sandro went in hard on Jack and that should have been a booking, maybe even his second as Sandro had been leaving his mark throughout the game.

Podolski!!! Arteta had a one-two with Jack and the ball took a ricochet off Twentystone into the path of Podolski.  Arteta kept running on the outside and just as I thought Pod was going to put Arteta in, he swiveled and shot himself and the ball spun of billy-the-kid to creep into the net, oh the joy 0-1 down 2-1 up and two ex-Gooners had helped put us in that position. Henry and Sol in the crowd up applauding…

Podolski 2-1

Lennon!!! Cazorla who was everywhere and involved in almost all Arsenal’s good work tried to play a through ball  to Podolski but Webb got in the way. Twentystone slide the ball to Lennon, but TV5 nipped in and Lennon could only foul TV5 and got booked for his trouble.

Giroud!!! Spurs we all over the place and Arsenal could smell more goals. Walcott  took the free kick which was headed out by the Bale. Jack headed it back to Santi, who strode forward with purpose was fouled but Webb played on. Santo got up and kept going into the box past the Spurs defence and crossed low with his left into the area and there was Giroud to fire Arsenal into a 3-1 lead.

Giroud 3-1

La La La La La La Giiiiroud!!! La La La La La La Giiiiroud!!! La La La La La La Giiiiroud!!! La La La La La La Giiiiroud!!!La La La La La La Giiiiroud!!! La La La La La La Giiiiroud!!! La La La La La La Giiiiroud!!! was sung out around the Emirates and blimey was it loud… My own frustration of bending down to pick up a bit of bubble wrap was getting me annoyed, I should have been there. however, the crowd and Arsenal were doing fine without me and I was getting a natural pain-killer where the boys were my medicine.

Half-time 3-1. Sod the fact Spurs had a player sent off. That’s not our fault, shit happens. it’s easy to say with a team 1-0 up that they may have won with 11 men, however, this fixture surely tells you that it not the case. Spurs are their own worse enemy against Arsenal. There fixation to surpass Arsenal is their own achilles heel.

Spurs kick-off the second  half and for the first ten minutes Arsenal were not doing much to put the game to bed. In fact they looked like they were giving Spurs a chance to get back into the game. Spurs had a couple of corners and plenty of the ball seeing they had ten men.

Cazorla!!! Long kick out was flicked on by Giroud. Theo controlled nicely on his chest – waited for the ball to drop and a nice touch gave him complete control, then Theo laid a nice ball into the path of Podolski on the outside overlapping. Podolski looked up and saw Cazorla on the far side of the area and crossed superbly into his path for Santi to slide it in for 4-1… What a cracking move that was…

Cazorla 4-1

“Adebayor!!! What’s the score”

Sandro!!! Jack is foulded by Sandro who gets his just deserts and maybe by now should be seeing red

Theo was through yet could only bring a save out of Lloris who put it for a corner. Arsenal were in complete control and having chances, however, I felt they were once again being wasteful, talking their foot of the pedal. This is confirmed when the play started to get sloppy.

Bale!!! The BFG just hit a ball up the line to clear and Sandro with no one near him headed the ball to Bale also with no one near him either. Bale strides forward and from 20 yards hit a right footer past Szczesny to make it 4-2. Sloopy play… Arsenal do like to make a game of it.

Jack is replaced by Arron.

Bale was through and instead of laying the ball into the path of Defoe, he shot and it went to safety. Close to 4-3. Ooooooo!!! Theo is put through yet his touch was awful and gave Vertonghen the chance to nip and in and the ball went through to Lloris.  Santos comes on for Podolski and straight away put a lovely ball through to TV5 who just could not get his shot in.

Podolski!!! picks up a booking for a foul on Vertonghen

Giroud was subbed for Oxo and went off to a good round of applause. He is certainly starting to find his feet.

Arsenal had woken up and started to play the ball around the pitch from side to side taking the pace out of the game, killing it off. Szczesny wasted a bit time, I don’t like seeing this. Don’t like it when done to us nor when we do it.

Walcott!!! Having taken the sting out of the game. Arsenal were still chasing and closing down. Santi was chasing the Spurs players around and forced Vertonghen to give the ball away to Oxo whose went through two players ran to the edge of the area squared for Theo, who controlled and shot past Lloris for 5-2.  Who would have thought it?

Webb blew for full-time 5-2 to the Arsenal!!!

So we beat the Spuds 5-2 at home for the second time in nine-months and the second time in two seasons Arsenal have stuck five past AVB.

Poor start yes. However this is Spuds we are talking about. Forever in our shadow. In the end we won not only down to them being with ten men. They completely lost their composure like they almost always do. Arsenal went up a gear or two, dominated a game that AVB said Spurs were in control of.

Always enjoyable to beat that mob down the road. Defence had its moments. Midfield was awesome when they got going and the fowards did their job. Giroud and Theo were always a threat. Cazorla, Jack and Arteta are some midfield.

So I got my natural medicine. The boys did not let me down. The atmosphere came over on the TV as superb. The crowd played their part.

Now Spurs need to mind the gap.

Deja Vu

What with Chelsea, Man Utd and Everton losing it was another Carlsberg weekend. If Arsenal can stay there abouts till transfer window and get a couple of players we need and get them signed and ready to start early January, we have to be in with a chance.
Have a great week this week Gooners… Plenty of high ground this week.. Remember Spuds are a needy bunch, so go easy on them.
Cheers
