Footballs Back!!!

September 15, 2012

Hi Gooners.

Football returns today with “the Arsenal” home to Southampton.

May 5th penultimate game of last season we played Norwich at home. Since then we have only played Sunderland at home on 18 August. Four months and one home game, can’t wait for this afternoon.

Can anyone remember much about the two sets of Euro Championship and international friendlies matches recently played save Arsenal players scoring? No! Thought not. What a complete waste of time, most matches a complete non-event. You get better quality of football in Division Two. I know qualifying games have to be played, but so many are just simply like early Capital Cup matches. To be fair to the Capital Cup, at least you might get some shocks and a few decent games.  Clubs can also leave their top players out and give others a chance.

The season starts and then goes to international break, the footballing equivalent of watching ITV drama shows. In three weeks time we have to go through another interlull…

Not much Arsenal news as you would expect during international week.

Last Saturday –  Gervinho grabbed a hat-trick of assists and a goal for Ivory Coast. Please Sir can we have some of that when you play for Arsenal. Make the passes count and take your chances in front of goal. You’d be superstar at Arsenal.

Sunday – Arsene Wenger speaks and says Johan Djourou still a big part of his plans and he loves the bloke.  To be fair I don’t think Johan is that bad. Johan has been a bit part and confidence player. There will be times when during the season when Johan will be needed and for a player willing to be in the background making video’s on Arsenal.com, he is a good choice 4th centre back. We could have to call on Squillaci.

Tuesday – SHOCK News !!! Abou Diaby picked up an injury. Apparently it’s a minor injury. As a precaution he was left out of the French team for their Euro Qualifier against Belarus. This is Abou Diaby so tweets that he is injured go into overdrive and the media make a good story out of it. For me it is what it is, a precaution, a safety net for a player that has just come back and played three full matches in a week. Arsenal should dispatch Southampton without his services.

Also news that Theo picked up a bug. Wonder if it’s the same bug that he gives me for being so inconsistent and frustrating. Giroud is taking a bit of stick, a few games into the new season and he is already daubed the new Chamakh (I Suppose Henry and Bergkamp were the new Ray Hankin). Will Giroud break his duck like so many other Arsenal top strikers have this Saturday against Southampton

Thursday – Gazidis speaks! For those that have not read it in full, it’s here and maybe well worth a read and I mean read it all. I think Ivan talks a lot of sense. It may not be what some sections of Arsenal support want to hear but it’s a fact of todays football life. Therefore it looks to me like whenever Ivan opens his mouth there are some who can’t wait to put their size “5” foot it in just for the sake of it. They don’t like him, therefore they don’t have to read what he says as it must be bullshine.

Ivan also mentioned that the club may be ready to offer Arsene a new long-term contract. Light blue touch-paper and Stan Welbeck. Let the battle of the AKB’s and Wenger out factions begin, fought out in 140 or less character tweets… For those like the fellow gooner in next para, it was maybe a bit too much.

I had a tweet session with a fellow Arsenal fan who shall we say dislikes Arsene Wenger, to put it mildly. People are entitled to their view and views good or bad make the world go round, the laws of averages being some views will be right sooner or later. This guy was furious over an article that was on Goal.Com (yes Goal.com) about Arsene saying

“It is an honour to sell our best players to Barcelona”

What he actually said was

“That Barcelona come look and buy our players can be seen as a compliment for us,” Wenger told Bein Sport. “Because it proves that our players are well-educated and also that our players are those that are most relevant to their style of game.”

Arsene did not say it was an honour TO SELL his best players to Barca. There is a difference. My suggestion would be to read articles and the quotes, not the headlines.

To be fair the session ended with both us accepting a sort of agree to disagree and mutual respect.

Friday – Sagna speaks out and suddenly becomes the next player that is going to walk through the revolving doors… Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!

Saturday – Finish this Blog, full English, get ready, don the away kit shirt, then me and the boy will travel Harlow Town -Scum Hale – Holloway Rd – Emirates to cheer on the lads to victory. Three points at home for the first time in four games would be great and keep momentum going.

My team today

Gzczesny, Genkinson, Germaelen, Goscielny, Gibbs, Garteta, Goquelin, Gazorla, Gervinho, Giroud and Godolski.
