A few thoughts on the WBA 2-3 Arsenal league match

May 14, 2012

Morning Gooners… Please tyake a look at video at end of report.

Well my mate, his kid, my Son and I were ready 9.45am. Four of us in the car leaving Harlow for Birmingham. Easy drive, no traffic, quick stop at the re-named Watford (mind the) Gap and we’re in the Car Park at East End Foods (£5 Bargain) a few hundred yards away from  the Hawthorns by 12.30pm.

10 mins later and we’re walking into the ground with a good amount of Gooners already inside making use of the food and drink outlet. Not too many in fancy dress save a group who came as Robin from Batman

The team is in…… Szczesny, Jenkinson, Vermaelen, Koscielny, Andre Santos (Ramsey 79), Rosicky (Walcott 46), Song, Coquelin, Benayoun, Gervinho (Gibbs 67), Van Persie and Fulop

The Gooners in the ground are making themselves heard.

Early bit of sparring between the sides.

  • Spuds 1-0 up after two mins, currently in pole position.

Gooooooooooooooal!!! Arsenal come forward. K6-S13-Coq-TR7-RVP through pass to Yossi who keeps chasing and Fulop make a right pigsear of it and leaves Yossi to run the ball into an empty net… 0-1 Arsenal

We’re by far the greatest team the word have ever seen. Not sure about that, but that’s what rung out in the away end.

Are you watching Tott-en-ham… Are you watching Tott-en-ham…

Arsenal back in Pole Position… Plenty of noise from away fans..

Arrrgggghhhhhh!!! Morrison come forward, easily drifts past Song and Coq without challenge and just as K6 is about to intercept Morrison slides the ball through and Long is all on his own right on the edge of the area, shoots and puts the ball past S13 to make it 1-1…  Spurs fans must be celebrating at SHL…

  • Everton 1-0 Newcastle. 4th Spot is worse case scenario right now..
  • Man Utd 0-1 up at Sunderland as it stand they are heading for their 20th Title.

Back come West Brom and deep in his own half Morrison picks up the ball, strides forward and chips a pass towards Dorrans and with both TV5 and K6 in close proximity, heads the ball the other way to which K6 is going, shapes and hits a clean strike into the bottom left hand corner for 2-1 WBA… Spurs winning 1-0. Arsenal losing 2-1. SHL must be rocking.. The next 15 mins not much is happening though Arsenal look to have control of the game.

Yossi is playing well, very well… Yossi hits and misses… RVP has shot blocked… Yossi now has shot blocked..

  • Everton 2-0 Newcastle. Still 4th and looking like that is worse case scenario.

Gooooooooooooooal!!! Mulumbu dwells on the ball as WBA come out of defence and is robbed by Songinho and the ball runs to Santos, who drifts past the WBA defender and hit a rocket that Fulop could only parry into the net, 2-2 game on… 12 assists for Song now. Spurs still 1-0 up and still in pole position… COYRS’s

Gervinho has shot blocked.. RVP goes into Refs book… Couple of WBA corners and Cox has shot blocked.. Gervinho shoots and misses and Cox has a shot blocked…

  • Man City 1-0 up at home to QPR and currently on course for 1st Prem Title.

HT 2-2… Only one winner here for me… I had spent the half sitting next to Tom (Lofty) Watt and the nerves were showing on him… I said we would win to him, the blokes to his right and the blokes in front of me… No sweat…

Arsenal make HT sub by bringing on Theo for TR7..

Early corner for Arsenal that comes to nothing . Jenkinson takes out Morrison. Santos has another shot at goal by flies just wide. I like Santos…

  • Shocker!!! Cisse levels for QPR 1-1 at middleEastlands. Man Utd back on top…

Joey Barton goes totally mental and elbows Tevez and gets himself a red card. Barton then knees Aguero and headbuts Kompany ,then for good measure tries to get at Balotelli. Who stopped them? and why?

Gooooooooooooooal!!! That’s the one… Corner comes over from RVP and Fulop one of Arsenal best players on the day makes his third assist of the game and tries to punch the ball into his own net only it falls to the player of the season behind RVP and K6 is there to flick it into the net for 2-3 Arsenal.. GET IN THERE!!!

A string of corners for WBA as they look to get back level, but all are dealt with by Arsenal’s defence. Gibbs comes on for Gervinho to play on left in front of Santos.

  • Tottenham go 2-0 at SHL yet it’s currently Arsenal in 3rd spot. Suffer you Spuds and that gap you kept talking about.
  • Everton 3-0 Newcastle and we still holding 3rd spot… Fans glued to mobiles on news from elsewhere.
  • Double shocker!!! Mackie puts QPR 1-2 up at middleEastlands and it’s looking grim for City who seems to be throwing the title away on last day.

Corners for each side, but nothing being created. West Brom seem to be shot, Arsenal are holding a line and do not look to want to break, just hold onto lead.

Ramsey now on for Santos.

Come on Arsenal!!! Come on Arsenal!!!

Time is ticking away, RVP makes a goal-line  clearance from Olsson, S13 saves well from Andrews and Kieran Gibbs makes the £35m tackle of the match in injury-time to deny Jones.

Still playing at City and Man Utd still on cards for 20th title…

  • But wait!!! The feed coming through is City have equalised 2-2, can they do it?
  • Unbelievable!!! Augero has only gone a bagged the winner at middleEastlands and City are crowned Champions!!! Well played City.

Nice to see Yossi.. Yossi Benayoun… La la la la la la la la la la la Yossi.. Yossi Benayoun Win a free kick on the half way line and then just kick the ball down field into space to see out time.

The ref blows the whistle and it’s 2-3 to the Arsenal. yet another comeback and oo to, oo to be, oo to be a fly on the wall of SHL right then as their fans slink away to a 17th successive season finishing behind Arsenal, who celebrate yet another St Tottering’s Day. Arsenal qualify automatically for the Champions League next year, no qualifiers and Spuds have to rely on Chelsea losing to Bayern.

Newcastle finish 5th…

Congrats to Jack Wilshere in winning his Twitter bet. Thanks to Amy Lawrence and Henry Winter who took the time to tell me about the shift in North London on 26 February this year.  Thanks to Man Utd who scored 8 past Arsenal yet lost the league by a GD of 8.

I’m not going to go into how the away fans celebrated at the end of the match with players save hope you all had a happy St Tottering’s day and enjoy this bit of video I took at the end of the match yesterday with the fans and players. Arsenal away fans.

I’ll be back over the coming weeks with an indivdual look and fair assessment of every player.
