Arsenal News 12 May 2012

May 12, 2012

Morning Gooners…

Monday Arsenal release pictures of the new home kit for next season. Lots of debate on internet about this. Some like, some don’t… Suppose that is always going to be the case. I quite like it and as is my want, have already ordered the new kit for myself and son on

Tuesday Night. Liverpool smash Chelsea 4-1 at home to get some revenge for their FA Cup defeat to the same opponents. This result has left Chelsea in 6th place where they will finish in the premiership. Chelsea will need to beat Bayern Munich on the 19 May in Munich to qualify for next season’s Champions League. I did not even watch the FA Cup Final, sad its demise over the last 5/10 years.

This now leaves Arsenal, Spurs and Newcastle battling it out for the coveted third/fourth placed spots. It’s going to be a worrying, nervy and yet very exciting last day of the football season.

  • Everton v Newcastle
  • Spurs v Fulham
  • West Bron v Arsenal

Thankfully I shall be attending the West Brom game. Shall be driving up from 9am on Sunday and hope to see many Gooners on the way up M1-M6 to the Hawthorns.

Weds was all about M’Villa signing for Arsenal, but that seems to have gone quiet and also in his weekly Press conference Arsene Wenger has spoken that he is not anywhere near singing any other players and that he feels it will be a quiet summer in the transfer window. So right now we have the addition of Podolski, hopefully the return of Jack Wilshere (New player). I do though fully expect Arsenal will sign a couple of more players and quite a few of the fringe players will leave the club before the start of next season

Thursday saw the retirement from Arsenal of Pat Rice after 44 years both as a successful player and coach.. A proper one club man and one that can fully jusify the title of Arsenal legend.

In total, Pat made 528 appearances for the first team across 14 years, including five FA Cup Finals and one European Fairs Cup Final. Pat won a League Championship medal 1971. F.A. Cup winner’s medal 1971, 1979 and got 49 caps for Northern Ireland as a player and also F.A. Youth Cup winner 1988, 1994. League Championship 1998, 2002, 2004. F.A. Cup winners 1998, 2002, 2003, 2005 as a coach.

Good luck in your retirement Pat.

Steve Bould have been promoted to first team coach and good luck to Steve in his new job.

Once the season is over I shall be blogging each players end of season report. A fair assessment of their seaosn with a few laughs thrown in as well.

Cheers and COYR’s
