A few thoughts on the Arsenal 1-0 Man City league match

April 9, 2012

Made way to ground with my Son taking our usual route Harlow-Tottenham Hale-Arsenal Tube and for the first time in ages neither Great Anglia Line (changed its name yet again) or the Victoria line were out-of-order. In fact it all went superb (this was looking like a good day ahead) and we made the ground from home to Emirates in 50 mins and that’s good going.

Arriving early and with it just starting to rain, we went straight inside the ground and bang on time to see Paul Scholes put United 2-0 up and United go 8 points clear of our opponents today.

With 10 mins to go at OT we took our seats and just sat, chatted and waited for the match to start. We had just heard of the early event’s at Old Trafford and the dive/offside by Ashley Young that earned Man Utd their first goal and helping hand the referee and assistant lineman had given them.

The team is in……. Szczesny (6), Sagna (8), Koscielny (8), Vermaelen (8), Gibbs(6) (Andre Santos) (6), Arteta (8), Song (9), Walcott(6) (Oxlade-Chamberlain) (5), Rosicky (8), Benayoun (7) (Ramsey) (5), van Persie (7). Subs Not Used: Fabianski, Djourou, Jenkinson, Chamakh.

The only surprise is that Gervinho (not even in squad) or Oxo are not starting as in place of Ramsey Le Boss has brought in Benayoun. For City there is no place at all for Silva or Johnson.

The ground is filling up nicely and for once everyone around us was in the ground at least 10 mins before kick off and we did not have to stand to let late comers in while game was on. The crowd seemed in a good mood and ready to get behind the team and boy right from the off did the team respond…

Arsenal fly into City and wave after wave of attacks we raining down on the City goal, but no real chances. Early touches for Clichy and Nasri and the boo’s ring out around the ground.  Foul on TR7 by Toure. Arteta curls the free-kick towards RVP, and Kompany heads out for corner. Arteta takes the corner. Hart is in no man’s land and is happy to see ball cleared It’s all Arsenal… Now Sagna wins the corner from former full-back Clichy. Hart punches RVP’s corner away and is taken out by Songinho.

Arsenal are really going for this. Sagna is having a whale of a time with Tubbytelli not being bothered to close him down. A cross from Sagna finds TR7 whose shot deflected past the post. Corner comes to nothing. The crowd around me are really getting into this game and normally staid people are getting out of their seats and cheering the team on.

“Arsenal!!! Arsenal!!! Arsenal!!!

“Whose that team we call the Arsenal? Whose that team we all adore………………………

Ya Ya comes out of defence with the ball and is tackled by Songinho and both players clash knees and Ya Ya goes down. He looks injured and comes off.

Ooooooooooooooooo!!!! That’s a PENALTY Ref!!! TR7 chips a ball into the area towards RVP, who goes down under a challenge from Kompany. If that happened 166 miles up the M1-M6-M62 that would have been a penalty. Yaya Toure limps off to be replaced by David Pizzahut. Arteta takes the corner  and with City players marking thin air RVP heads towards the net, it’s going in only it hits TV5 on the line and then the bar. TR7 heads the rebound wide.

What a waste of money!!! What a waste of money!!!

O.M.G!!! That’s a SHOCKER!!! Tubbytelli makes a leg-breaker challenge on Song and goes in studs-up on Song’s shin. How the ref and Assistant’s did not see that I don’t know. I am in Upper Tier, Clock End, row 14, and I, with people around me saw that. Tubbytelli should have been rec carded there. The funny thing is Arsenal did not even get a free kick.

Kos clears City’s first attack for corner.  Tubbytelli, get’s on the end of Barry’s corner , shoots, Gibbs stops and it and RVP hacks the ball clear. Now Sagna is down. Yes you’ve guessed it? Tubbytelli with the foul again and still no booking. Pizzahut picks out Tubbytelli with a good through ball and there is S13 off his line quickly to clear the danger 35 yards from goal. Boy S13 is quick.

At Last!!! A  good build up from City, Pizzahut-Nasri-Aguero. Aguero’s is stopped by TV5 and Gibb’s, only for the ball to run loose and both Sagna and Tubbytelli go for the ball only for Tubbytelli to raise his foot high into Sagna’s Shin and is rightly booked, but should be off the park…

Arsenal are sending in crosses for fun today, but no end product.

HT 0-0

Aguero tries to go past Koscielny and gets nowhere. I have Kos down a my Arsenal player of the season behind RVP.

Cross from £asri and Aguero heads towards goal for S13 to tip over for a corner… £asri has a kick out at Areta feeling he is being overshadowed by a proper No.8.

Milner is booked.

Santos comes on for Gibbs.

Andre Santos is booked.

Ooooooooooooooo!!! That was close… RVP hits the woodwork for the second time!  Songinho chips in another one of his trademark passes right onto RVP’s head who just guides the header past the stranded Hart and against the post. Just how many times in his Arsenal career has RVP hit the woodwork? Surely must win Crossbar challenge easy.

Nice one ref… Koscielny gets booked and picks up a two match suspension. He could not wait to book him. Still he will only miss Wolves and Wigan. Mind you he did catch Barry.

City Free kick is headed across the goal and Tubbytelli just fails to connect with a over-head kick.

Goooooooooooooal!!! Oh no it’s not!!! Walcott disposseses Clichy and the ball falls for Songinho, who finds RVP with a slide-rule pass. RVP controls the ball takes it inside the City defender and curls a beauty past Hart. The crowd go wild only to have the goal wiped out for offside, that must have been close… (Funny that in a weekend of refereeing  and assistant referee’s mistakes that Cheslea and United should get plainly obvious offside decisions go for them, RVP’s goal was the least offside amongst them all and yet it was disallowed)

How is that not 1-0 to the Arsenal!!! TV5-TR7-RVP-TR7-RVP-TR7-Sagna who hits a low cross and find Theo, whose low side foot shot is tipped onto the post by Hart. The ball runs kindly for TV5 who should score and yet hits the ball across the goal and there is Benayoun who should also score, however, the ball hits his midriff and stays out… The City players high-five as the know they got out of jail there.

Ramsey replaces Benayoun.

Nasri is replaced by Kolarov and is roundly booed off the pitch by the home crowd and a chorus of “What a waste of money!!!”

Aguero goes off (after Koscielny takes him out of his pocket after being asked nicely by Mr. Mancini) to be replaced by Tevez.

A big cheer as Oxo come on for Walcott.

Gooooooooooooooal!!! Brilliant… Cracker… Happy days…. Get in there!!! TR7 wide to Sagna-Theo-Sagna. Barry intercepts and chips the ball out of defence into the middle of the park to Pizzahut who is tackled by the very impressive Arteta. Arteta strides forward, lines up the shot and unleashes hell at Hart in the City with a worldy that curls slighty to the right and beats Hart all ends up… 1-0 to the Arsenal… The roof almost comes off the Emirates as that was coming and no more than Arsenal deserved.

This is followed by at least 35/40000 Arsenal supporters doing the Poznan and boy did it look impressive… The noise level now was awesome inside the ground… Supporters had lost all inhibitions and were going crazy…

Zabaleta crosses the ball and it’s punched away by S13 where the ball falls for Sagna and there is Tubbytelli going in frustrated and takes out Sagna. On his knees Tubbytelli hands in praying position looks to the skies and gets what he deserved a long time ago, a red card.

Arsenal fans are singing to  £asri “are you watching, are you watching”…

Arrrrggghhhh!!! Silly free kick to give away. Koscielny on Tevez. Kolarov shoots into the wall and Arsenal  break and with only two City players back. Santos (Zabaleta ends up being booked for bad foul on Santos)  slides the ball to TR7 who has been all over the park and played superbly. TR7 hits it with the outside of his right foot to put Ramsey in on goal. Oxo is on his own in the middle of the area, screaming for the ball. Ramsey comes back inside and by now has both Oxo and RVP in good positions to make it 2-0 and round the game off and yet decides to go for glory with a Bergkampesque curler into the top right corner and just mis-hits well wide. RVP was not amused.

FT 1-0 to the Arsenal!!!

What game. What atmosphere. What joy today. I was feeling ill and almost did not go. Her indoors was saying I was being silly going. But the thought of missing this and the lad having to miss out as well, I over-ruled her indoors and went anyway. So glad I did…

Arteta, Songinho and TR7 were superb today… The defence was well solid… One of those big games where the result was all that mattered and we came up with the goods.

Leaving the ground was amazing the feel good factor was all around. smiles everywhere. As we entered the under the bridge by the Armoury, the fans walking away from the ground started singing and the noise was incredible.

Now two points clear of the Spuds and five clear of £helsea and the Barcodes… Since losing to Utd 2-8 Arsenal have won the same amount of games as Man City.

Ooo to, Ooo to be, Ooo to be a Gooner… Ooo to, Ooo to be, Ooo to be a Gooner..

Another weekend of shocking decisions by refs and assistants and will someone, somewhere do something about it.

Cheers for reading..
