Arsenal News 4 March – Player Reviews

March 4, 2012

Morning Gooners… Had a good night out with her indoors last night, pub and curry in Harlow. While I will not let an Arsenal defeat ruin my evenings, a win always makes them much more fun.

Watched MOTD when I got in, Good old Gary, Alan and Mark, telling us no more than I and you already know. Not withstanding how they have knocked us many times this season and suddenly were in 4th spot. Though both agreed it was NOT a penalty.

Looking back, Liverpool knew that had to win this game, they could not afford to lose. It was a second cup final in a week for them, lose and Champions League is a distant dream and boy do they need Champions League football. That is why they gave it a great shot and looked to have played as well as they have all season. In the end they blew it.

So we’re top four, look at what all the doubters we saying a few weeks back Three points above Chelsea and though it’s sickening, hoping United do us a favour today v Spuds and after same games only four points gap. Of course it still could all go pear-shaped, but maybe after comebacks against Villa (cup) Sunderland (League) Tottenham (League) and Liverpool (League) the team are showing some fighting spirit and never say die attitude. This can only be good for the remainder of the season.

Szczesny – What can you say about this young lad. So much confidence, so big and a bit loopy, but that’s what good goalkeepers need and also none too short on what counts ability. Does get beat by a lot of long-range shots, but I have no doubt this will improve over time. Right now a fan Icon. 9/10 only because I thought he should have caught the penalty

Sagna – Well last week he started the rout v Spurs and this week he picked out a peach of a cross for RVP’s head to make it 1-1. Slowly getting back to becoming what he was the best right back in the league and giving us a more balanced defensive unit. 7/10, nah! make it 8 extra point for the cross.

Koscielny – Poor old Kos, the OG curse strikes again like it did at Blackburn, but hey it was a beauty and at least it meant we scored all three. This could for me kill many players, but apart from a mis-judgment of a high ball that almost let in Suarez not sure what else he did wrong and also stopped Kelly from scoring with a tap in, that Kos either got a touch too, or did enough to put Kelly off. 6/10

Vermaelen – Good strong defender is our TV5 thought he played alright in the face of a first half onslaught and did a good solid job. Booked 6/10

Gibbs –  Was well out of position many times, but not helped by Beneyoun. Still good to have natural left back in position as this help our attacking capabilities. It was backs to the wall for a lot of the game yesterday, yet with a little luck on our side for a change we managed to keep them down to one goal. Gibbs also made one or two very good tackles when Scouse were looking dangerous. 5/10

Arteta (Diaby 52) (Oxlade-Chamberlain 81) – Flattened by Henderson, who i still think knew what he was doing, run across him my arse. However, he was not having the best of games, neither was the midfield as a unit, being over run by a poor Liverpool midfield that were hustling well. Diaby looked good when he came, shame it did not last long. Oxo, did alright as well and had one screaming shot that looked like it was going to make it 3-1. 5/10 – 5/10 – 5/10 all round

Song – Part of a poor functioning midfield for me v Scouse, but individually played well. Song’s ball to RVP alone was worth watching the game for. Song is a monster of a player and for me anyone who think Parker is better……………….. Quality player is Alex. 7/10

Walcott – Another frustrating game for young Theo. Poor effort when ball laid back to him to score, looked like a boy lost in the area and tame effort of a back header, however, had a very good shot in first half that almost caught Reina out. Jury’s out and has been for 6 years. Wish the Judge would call them back in. 5/10

Rosicky – Gave ball away a lot today, maybe down to in-yer-face attitude of Scouse midfield who chased and harried all game, but still always looking to go forward and I like this in TR7. 6/10

Benayoun (Gervinho 74), Had a poor game, not sure he was stuck on who he was playing for seeing the match was at Anfield. Strangely subdued compared to his performance v Spuds 4/10

Van Persie – Fill in the gaps yourself…………………………………………………….. 10/10

  • 10 – Robin van Persie has now scored 10 winning goals in the Premier League this season, 4 more than any other player (Lampard – 6). Crucial

Wenger – Think since the match ended Arsene got this one right, though lucky to get 3 points. Looked to be playing for Liverpool to tired late in game and nick result. maybe you got a bit lucky today Arsene but then maybe deserved luck at last. 5/10

Team – Not the best team performance you will see from Arsenal. Midfield did not get a chance today with Liverpool’s midfield running there little hearts out and getting in our faces. team was a bit disjointed and yet survived to some individual brilliance, some good saving tackles and sticking in there and no small amount of good fortune that Liverpool could not hit a cow’s arse with a banjo. 6/10

  • 5 – Arsenal have now scored five own goals in the PL this season, no other team has netted more than two. Giving.

Finally 12th man all credit to them. Heard then on TV throughout the match and the team can rightly be proud of them, Always turn out in force, always vocal and supportive and good banter. Shame it cannot be replicated at Emirates 10/10

Right might tune into Sunday Supplement (Henry Winter is on today) if only to see what they might say about “The Shift” “Top Four” “lucky of Arsenal get top seven” even say they might have got it wrong, fat chance!!!..

Stay safe out there
