Arsenal News 26 February 2012

February 27, 2012

Morning Friends, Countryman and fellow Gooners. I’m taking a punt here and guessing many of you found this particular Monday morning as easy one to negotiate and are walking tall and proud today. Go forth Gooners and grin at those Spuds out there. There not worth taking the Mickey out of, just a good old Gooner grin, will do the  trick.

Well yesterday was fun, wasn’t it. Seriously like Aston Villa at home in FA Cup, I thought we were unlucky, very unlucky to find ourselves 2-0 down. At the Villa game I thought we could come back and I did tweet and text that. Yesterday however, Spurs two goals were fortunate and going 2-0 up in that fashion and us not taking our chances I was thinking this is not going to be our day. This mob down the SSR have luck on their side.

Well talk about the boys pulling it round and showing me, you, them they do have fight, guts, determination, bottle, ability and mashing up the Spuds. That was just awesome. I could not go yesterday, how gutted am I. However, unlike a lot of fans, my seats were filled in my absence. On TV the crowd came across brilliantly, fantastic atmosphere and having heard from some Gooners who were there, it was every bit as I thought and it sounded like on TV. A massive congratulations goes out to the 12th man in the team. If only it could be like in all games.

This brings me onto the team and their performances.

Szczesny, – Strange one is S13. I am well comfortable with him between the sticks and yet he does seem to get beaten by a lot of long-range shots and freaky goals, but this aside he is immense for a goalkeeper and will be a great. Funny that in two games v out London rivals 5-3 away at Chelsea and the 5-2 at home to Spurs he could have been sent off (would have been un-deserved on both occasions, but could have been and yet we ended up scoring 5 past both. Unlucky with both goals, was never a penalty and just his presence, I’ll give him 7/10

Sagna – The Sagna we know yesterday. Bit off for first 20 mins and then suddenly clicked and had a superb match, made even better by a fine header to start off the rout of the Spuds. Welcome bas Sag 7/10

Koscielny, – Early slip for the Spuds first goal, but they still had a lot to do. After that good old reliable Kos was very good, he really has become a top, top defender who reads the game, plays 50% football in his head like all good players, fast, can tackle and very comfortable on the ball. A real find this player. 8/10

Vermaelen – Solid. Solid as a rock. Another player who looked back to normal after 20 mins when the team finally settled. Kept their forwards quiet along with Kos and these two are going to be a good pairing. Mertersaker is a good organizer and reads game well which makes up for his lack of speed, however, in big games I think the Kos/TV5 duo will be the main stay of the defence. 7/10

Gibbs (Jenkinson 75) – Still learning and taking longer due to his many injuries, but Gibbs did alright and along with the defence as a whole sorted themselves out and played as a unit. Jenkinson looked cool and did well when he replaced Gibbs 6/10 and 5/10

Song – Monster. This guy can play make no mistake. Always rated him and he is so cool under pressure. Can best players, tackle strong and what I like is he tackle to win the ball and come away with it, to keep us going. He can play good through balls, ala the one that started the RVP’s equalizer and the One for Theo’s 5th and has been doing this all season. How anyone can question this guy I don’t know. 8/10

Arteta – Pass master: 93% accuracy, 1 assist, 4 through balls. First Premier League player to 1500 accurate passes this term. What a player. Cesc light maybe, but rather Cesc light than none at all. Like Song can do all the things a good midfielder should be able to do. Had a stormer and like the defence the midfield knitted together perfectly during the game. Spurs midfield were given a lesson. 8/10

Walcott (Oxlade-Chamberlain 81) – Theo, dear Theo. Come on admit it, like me, you wear tearing your hair with his first half performance. He could not trap a bag of cement. Could not cross a road and could not pass wind, he was awful. The feeling even at home from the terraces was not good karma towards young Theo. However, Arsene see’s something in him and keeps with him. Then even though overall his second half was not great, he had a good shot across the goal, bagged two and caused Spurs problems by just being there.. Oxo did not really have time to make impact. 7/10 for goals and 5/10

Rosicky – My MOTM and what a game he had. Little Mozart, showed Modric how it’s done and for me if not for injuries would put Modric in the shade. He was everywhere. So happy he scored and a flowing move started and finished by him, great header tipped over. Bust throughout and looking like the TR7 we know. Well played that man 9/10

Benayoun (Gervinho 88) – Another player who choose yesterday to have his best game for Arsenal and like Rosicky and Arteta was all over getting in Spuds players faces, tracking back, doing donkey work, when needed and generally good all round. 7/10

van Persie – What can you say about RVP. The skill level of the man is outstanding and right now RVP, Ronaldo and Messi are right up there as the 3 best players on the planet. Another RVP worldy for the equalizer and superb hold up play for Theo’s first and our fourth. Proper Captains display and drove the team forward when 2-0 down saying “We will not go quietly into the night!” We will not vanish without a fight! We’re going to play on! We’re going to win! Today we celebrate beating Spuds today! What a guy!!! 9/10

Arsene Wenger – Good day for the manager. Nice to see him smiling, he deserves yesterday. Good team choice and they paid him back. Let’s hope this does not paper over some cracks that are there and that need sorting in the summer. But for now, well done Arsene and I’ll give you an 8/10

Jeremy Wilson in Telegraph – Arsenal players considered soft-centred gave lion-hearted displays against Tottenham Good view on Arsenal performance.

Bale is a diving cheating player and it is no surprise to me that it has been brushed under the carpet by the @Arry loving media. After all he is the world’s best player.  I understand that Gareth Bale to star in a new remake of Tarzan! Yes, he’s going to play Cheetah (credit for that one to Arseblogger)

Anyway enjoy your Monday Gooners, these Monday’s do not come round too often.

Stay safe out there.
